Overview of the projects done independently.
COMPLETED PROJECTS
At the start of summer, I started working on a device to store/retrieve packages allowing for the easy organisation of smaller items. This project challenged me to design a robust system that can be operated remotely through a graphical user interface (GUI). Therefore during this project, I developed a GUI using C# that can communicate to the device and perform the necessary tasks.
Designed and 3D printed an adjustable tripode phone mount. Intially the intention was to manufacture a mount specific to a particular phone however after considering the funstionality of the device, I ultimatley decided to challenge myself and make the mount adjustable using a pair of springs. The final mount is capable of holding phones with a width of 50mm to 90mm.
Through the purchase of a 3D printer, I was able to apply my CAD modelling skills and solve a variety of practical issues. These smaller projects included the design and manufacture of cable management clips, mounting guides, organisers and small figures.
During my free time I occasionally modelled several building exteriors and interiors. This allowed me to further practice using Solidworks to model larger assemblies and components. Furthermore, this activity encouraged me to find methods to simplify more complex items in order to reduce the overall modelling time.
ONGOING PROJECTS
Seeing how the doors slammed due to drafts I decided to build my own doorstop. However to make it more convenient I decided to implement a ratcheting mechanism allowing the user to open the door freely. Then by disengaging the ratchetting mechanism it would be possible for the user to shut the door when required.
FUTURE PROJECTS
With access to an outdoor pond I started considering methods to improve quality of the water in which the fish grew in a sustainable manner. Currently researching how the operational charachteristics of typical aquaponic systems and considering how to implement this within the intended location.
Cycling frequently I started considering methods to improve my personal saftey and that of other road users, and the inclusion of turn signals and brake lights seems the most apperent method. However to implement this idea I am currently researching the different components I would require and brainstorming ideas on the overall layout of the system.
As a supplemantary system to the aquaponics system considered previously I am also in the early design stages of an automatic fish feeder suited for both indoor and outdoor use.
